An Edinburgh local has captured phenomenal images of the Northern Lights shining over the Leith area of the city. Brigitta took the pictures on Friday, December 12 between 10:20pm and 10.40pm.
While the lights weren't visible to the human eye, she was able to use her phone camera to get a few shots of the vibrant green lights as they shone down on Leith.
The Northern Lights occur as a consequence of substantial solar activity, which unleashes enormous quantities of charged particles – referred to as solar wind – into space.
